
Southern Millwright Apprentices Shine at Annual Apprenticeship Competition

Six Millwright apprentices from around the SSMRC recent gathered recently in Chattanooga, TN to display their millwright skills at the annual UBC Southern District Apprenticeship Competition.
Chad Snow (LU 1554), , Bryan Grant (LU 2232), Matthew Nowlin (LU 216), Corey Smith (LU 1263), Creighton Powers (LU 1000) and Shawn LeGros (LU 792) were tested over two days.
The first day focused on academic abilities in classroom competition.
The second day saw contestants at work with their hands to display their practical prowess.
Tasks included motor pump alignment, welding, and instrumentation.
Local 1554's Chad Snow won the millwright competition,
and was honored at the awards banquet to end the event.

The UBC Southern District Apprenticeship Competition is an annual event
that showcases the skills and knowledge of apprenticeship from the
millwright, concrete placement, and interior systems crafts.
The event
was held on October 14 and 15, 2011 at the Carpenters Training Center in
Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Attendees at the event included UBC Southern
District Vice President Danny Maples and Southern States Millwright
Regional Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Dennis Donahou.
